Làm sạch rau củ, cắt chúng thành miếng phù hợp. Hành cắt vòng tròn, cà chua cắt lát, cà rốt cắt miếng tròn nhỏ hoặc miếng vuông. Ớt chuông xanh cắt dài, khoai tây cắt nửa hoặc thành 4 phần nếu củ to.
Mở nắp nồi, khi thịt chín, thêm hành tây, nêm tiêu và muối, hạt nêm vào đảo đều. Nấu hành trong khoảng 15 phút và thêm cà chua. Nấu thêm 10-15 phút nữa là được. Khi cà chua đã mềm, thêm khoai, cà rốt vào và nấu khoảng 20 phút để khoai mềm hơn là được.
Múc canh ra chén, trang trí bằng thì là hoặc rau thơm tùy thích.
